Man charged for murdering Nampa 9-year-old in 1982

An Idaho Department of Corrections inmate was charged with the first-degree murder and rape of 9-year-old Daralyn Johnson, the Canyon County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday.

Johnson was killed in 1982, and then 34-year-old Charles Fain was arrested for the crime. He spent years on Idaho's death row until DNA evidence cleared him.

Dalrymple, 64, was named a suspect back in 2020 after police used advanced DNA technology. Dalrymple is currently serving a 20-year sentence in the Idaho Department of Corrections for lewd conduct with a minor under 16.

Dalrymple's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 25.
