LONDON — Israeli satcoms equipment maker SatixFy announced plans Aug. 31 to sell its satellite payload subsidiary to MDA as part of a $60 million strategic transaction with the Canadian space hardware specialist.
MDA is spending $40 million to buy SatixFy Space Systems UK Ltd, a British developer of satellite payload systems and subsystems, including digital beam-forming antennas and onboard processors.
The announcement comes weeks after MDA won a $1.6 billion contract to build 198 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites for Telesat, a Canada-based operator of geostationary satellites.

A violent weekend across Chicago left at least 40 people shot, seven fatally, including at least four teenagers, one just 14 years old, police said Monday morning.
The shootings erupted at a block party and a large park gathering. One man was shot dead sitting in his car at a stoplight and another was gunned down as he stood on a sidewalk, according to authorities.

A court in El Salvador has sentenced former President Mauricio Funes to 14 years in prison for negotiating with gangs during his administration.
The sentence on Monday follows a trial that began in April with Funes living in neighbouring Nicaragua. El Salvador changed its laws last year to allow trials in absentia.
